Face Shape Part 1 Oval, Round

This will begin part one of how to decide which makeup to use based on different face shapes.

Oval
-Considered ideal face shape
-About 1.5 times longer than it is wide
-Doesn't require any corrective highlights or low-lights

Round
-Just about as wide as long
-Looks best with lowlights under the cheekbones and highlights above them applied in vertical strokes
-Blush should be immediately along the bottom edge of the cheekbones
-Use a bit of highlight on the chin as well

How long is my makeup good for? When do I toss it?

Cleansers/Moisturizers - good for six months.
• Foundation - six month shelf life if applied with fingertips, one year if applied with a sponge.
• Lipstick - one year.
• Eye and Lip Pencils - one year.
• Powders and stick concealers - one year.
• Eye shadow and blush - two years.
• Mascara - good for three months

Great shades for different skin tones

Medium skin tones
Taupe and medium brown for eyes. Warm corals, peaches or pinks for cheeks. Pinkish-brown or berry for lips.

Dark skin tones
Browns, plum, gray for eyes and cheeks. Wines and deep reds for lips.

Asian

Purple/brown, gray, taupe for eyes. Plum for cheeks. Plum or ruby reds for lips

Lighter Woman of Color
Plum and caramel for eyes. Plum, bronze and coffee for cheeks. Reds, plums or deep copper for lips.

Darker Woman of Color
Plum, dark gray to black and chocolate for eyes. Plum and bronze for cheeks. Deep copper, red or chocolate brown for lips.

Functions of Primer and Why you should use it...

  • Helps hide enlarged pores and fine lines.
  • Allows foundation to sit on top of the skin rather than sitting in expression lines and accentuating wrinkles (which is what foundation often does when not used with a primer).
  • Helps foundation adhere to the skin and infuses it with vitamins and minerals (depending on the brand)
